Probir Gupta took a graduate course in Paintings & Murals from the Government College of Arts & Crafts, Kolkata and continued with his study in paintings from the Ecole Nationale Supe Serieure Des Beaux Art, Paris
.
He has participated in over 60 group and solo shows all over the world since 1982. He has also been associated with various workshops and camps including ones organized by Khoj Residency on Public Art, besides doing curatorial work for shows such as the ‘Mini Prints: 20 print makers’ at the Alliance Francaise, New Delhi.

He has been conferred with various awards and has been nominated as Eminent Artist to the General Council, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi.
