curator's note

Having decided to make a comeback into the art world after hibernating for four years, I decided to start off with an exhibition of contemporary art by the 'New Generation' of artists. I was unfamiliar with the happenings in the art world over the last few years, and was faced with the task of reviewing and selecting a body of works for my show. I had just four months to put it all together. A few of the artists' in this show I was familiar with, but some others like Krishna Murari, Susanta Mandal and R.V. Sindhu were new names for me.

Having selected all the works, I still had my doubts on how they would all come together in one space and if the vastly differing media and works - each being very powerful in it's own right - would form a cohesive whole, translating into an exciting show. As I did not have storage facilities to collect the works prior to the show, I was compelled to request the artists to bring the works directly to the gallery space on the eve of the exhibition. That was the first time I saw the works collectively and as the works were being displayed, I could see the show take shape. That was the moment when I felt the excitement building up in me and the certainty that it would be a show that would be etched in my memory for a long time. I greatly enjoyed putting this show together and I do hope the artists whose works are in this show, enjoyed it as much.

It is a great pleasure for me to present to you ASSEMBLED VOICES, which I hope excites you as much as it does me. The unbridled creative expression of these artists and the fact that all of them come across as serious, thinking individuals, gives me a great sense of satisfaction for being the conduit in bringing their works for your viewing pleasure.

I would like to thank all the participating artists for their cooperation and for consenting to be a part of this show at such short notice.

I would particularly like to expresss my appreciation and gratitude to Probir Gupta and Prima Kurien for their great support and confidence in me. It would have been an arduous task for me to bring this show to you without them.
